Nick Lachey is set to be the host of a new show called The Sing-Off, and he explained the rules to People magazine recently, saying, "There is nowhere to hide when you're doing an a cappella song. There's no band behind you and dubbing. It's just you. It's just them naked on stage and what they have done to prepare is what will show through in that moment."

Born in Kentucky on November 9, 1973, Nick Lachey moved with his family when he was young to Cincinnati, Ohio. Early on, complex Scorpion Nick discovered a love for entertaining, and he enrolled at the School for Creative & Performing Arts. After graduation, he decided to pursue acting at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, but after one year, he returned home and studied sports medicine in order to be closer to his family. During a summer break, Nick got a call from a long-time friend who had heard of an upcoming audition for a boy band in Los Angeles, and because Nick had always kept a career in music at the back of his mind, he accepted the well-timed invitation.
Soon Nick, his younger brother Drew and two friends went to L.A. to try out for what was supposed to be a "soulful quartet." At the audition, they impressed the music executives so much that 98 Degrees was formed on the spot! Nick dropped out of college and immediately went to work on a debut album, which led to the hit single "Invisible Man." After several hit songs, however, in 2002 the group announced that they were splitting up to pursue other projects, and Nick went out on his own.
In February 2002, Nick proposed to his pop star girlfriend Jessica Simpson, and after they were married they agreed to do the MTV reality show, , which must have been a strain on their relationship given that Nick is an intensely private Scorpio! The show was an immediate hit, but after a third season, not only had interest in the show waned, but their marriage also fell apart and they divorced in 2006. Nick tried to parlay his boy band/reality show success into more TV and film spots, but although he's had some roles here and there, he has yet to have major solo success on the big or little screen.
In his spare time, Nick is totally into sports, especially NASCAR -- with his Mars in Aries, he is a competition junkee! -- and he is part owner of two different minor league sports teams. His love life also looks to be back on track, as he's dated TV personality Vanessa Manillo for quite some time, but unlike one of his favorite sports, it looks like he's taking this relationship nice and slow!
